Kim Carnahan
Kim Carnahan is the President and CEO at the Center for Green Market Activation (or, GMA). Kim has nearly 20 years of experience in climate change, including nearly a decade at the US State Department where she managed the team that negotiated the Paris Agreement and its implementing guidance as well as climate change agreements at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Maritime Organization (IMO). An expert in carbon markets, GHG accounting and alternative fuels, Kim spearheaded the launch of the Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance (SABA) in 2021. She founded the Center for Green Market Activation in 2024, which continues to support SABA and the Zero Emissions Maritime Buyers Alliance (ZEMBA) while also developing book-and-claim systems and buyer’s alliances for heavy-duty trucking, cement and concrete, and chemicals. GMA also acts as the Secretariat for the AIM Platform, which aims to fill a gap in the GHG accounting and target setting landscape today. Since 2022, AIM has been developing a new standard and guidance that enables companies to identify decarbonization investments that qualify as “associated with value chain”, assess their quality, and account for and report their impact, working in collaboration with GHG Protocol and SBTi.
